Efforts for periodontal disease(1)

Periodontal disease refers to all diseses that occur in the periodontal tissue, which consists of
the gums, cementum, periodontal ligament and alveolar bone. Periodontal disease is an
inflammatory disease caused by oral bacteria in plaque and is roughly divided into gingitis and
periodontitis. About 70% of Japanese people have some kind of abnormality in their gums,
and it is limeted middle-aged, 80% of people have periodontal disease,

Recently, periodontal disease has been positioned as a lifestyle-related disease and is related to
eating habits, toothbrushing habits, smoking, etc. Therefore, improvement of individual lifestyle
habits and self-help efforts of patients are also greatly involved in the success or failure of
periodontal disease treatmen.

Therefore, Caretis is working on the practical development of the following kits that will help
prevent periodontal disease and treet them efficiently. ( Patent application 2020-003636 )

1 . Kit to detect bleeding (colorimetry) and periodontal disease bacteria (fluorescence)
  in gingival exudate and saliva.
2 . Culture periodontal disease bacteria in gingival exudate and saliva and measure
  the number of bacteria.

Periodental disease bacteria can be cultivated and detected using common anaerobic bacterial media
without the use of special equipment such as anaerobic incubator or chambers.

3 . Observation box, shooting box, measurement module for more effective use
  of inspection kit.

[ Observation box ] A dark box in which the distance between the LED light and the sample is
         adjusted to make it easier to observe the fluorescence.

[ Shooting box ] A dark box with an LED light for shooting flourescence (number of periodontal
         disease bacteria) with a smartphone or digital camera.
         The capture image can be quantified by histogram analysis with like ImageJ.
